Jenny's letter to Barangay Captain Douglas Casiano of Bangan Oda, Agno, Pangasinan:
Dear Sir,
It has come to my attention that a big quarrying project has been planned near the property of my ancestors as well as mine. I have heard that this has been put forward for approval by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
For the last few years, as a Filipino far away from my country, I, together with many residents of Telec, have been doing what we can to save our environment. The setting up of a quarry could easily endanger all our efforts so far.
As you can see from the enclosed photos, I have been pursuing, together with local residents, a big project of planting mangrove trees on the banks of Agno River. This has involved considerable investment on my part. It is shocking to think that your planned quarry will increase the already powerful flow of the river, thereby escalating the danger of erosion there. This type of bad planning reminds me of the recent disaster in Leyte caused by deforestation, which as you know resulted in the destruction of three villages and took the lives of hundreds of victims.
Through this letter I will ask as many people as possible to seriously protest your quarrying plan.
...
Sincerely yours,
Jennelyn Rosete von Alvensleben
