Awit ng Isang Ina
Melvyn, Athena's husband, writes of this painting:
"Awit ng Isang Ina is very near to our hearts. It is about a close friend of my wife who was arrested while pregnant and had to deliver a child while she was in jail. She is a real life activist who happened to be the wife of my brother, also arrested and tortured. The child is my niece, currently is involved in theatre. The names on the jail wall are victims of the Marcos dictatorship: Eman Lacaba was a personal friend at Ateneo; Liliosa Hilao; Mars Alvarez; Perla Somonod; Omar Verdote; Rene Miranda -- all summarily tortured and executed."
